Idea by James: How to fix “error printing” messages when i try to print?

I am trying to print a document from Microsoft Word 2007 from my laptop to a network printer. When I click print, a message automatically pops up saying “Error Printing”.

The printer I am trying to print to is a Brother MFC-465 CN printer which is connected to my desktop.

My dad is able to print documents from his own laptop to the printer.

I have recently just installed Kaspersky 2009 onto my laptop.

Please help!

Hi James-

You provided a lot of helpful information about your situation. What is most likely happening is that the Kaspersky firewall is preventing the Brother print driver from connecting with the printer. What you will need to do is disable the Kaspersky firewall for all Brother applications and drivers. I can’t tell you exactly what programs you will need to add to the Kaspersky trusted list but below is a link that shows how you go about doing it.

Just add all Brother apps to it and that should get it to work. You may want to reinstall the Brother printer driver if not. If all else fails just disable the Kaspersky firewall, although this is understandably not desirable.

Please let me know if this helps or you need more help. I may be able to provide more if needed.

Cheers and good luck!

Were you able to print BEFORE you installed kapersky ?

If so, then Kapersky needs configured to allow the print driver access, Kapersky support can help with that.

You state the printer is connected to your desktop, but it’s a network ready printer, so hooking it up on the network directly would be a better idea.

open a command prompt on one PC, type IPCONFIG and note the IP address you are using.

If it was say 192.168.1.3 then the 192.168.1.* is the range you are using, so set the printer IP to say 192.168.1.100

install driver / edit properties and set port as a LOCAL port, type TCP/IP with address of the IP you gave the printer

Now you can print direct over network without the desktop being on.

Fully grasp greater?
