from what i can gather an appliance printer is one with multiple functions and built in software that makes it self contained without the need for a computer to even be attached.


copier/scanner/photo printers accept input from various sources directly so i assume they would qualify and there may be others if that defintion is correct but i’m guessing

An appliance printer is a printer that is meant to be plugged into some system to perform some specific task. A general purpose “regular” printer such as an all-in-one that has copier/fax/printing is not an “appliance” in technical terms. An appliance printer can be compared to a network appliance such as a router that can be plugged into a network to extend the capabilities of the system. A search for “network appliance” will give you more hits so you can understand the “appliance” concept.
