Quandary from FTFT: How do I remove XBox PC wireless controller?

Using the provided receiver, I have connected my wireless XBox controller to my laptop (Windows 7). It is working fantastically.

I would now like to disconnect it, but there is no “Safely Remove Hardware” on my bottom-right, and there isn’t a “Remove” option in the “Devices and Printers” section.

Do I unplug the receiver directly then? Then, the controller is still on.

What is the proper way to disconnect both (receiver and controller)?

Because the receiver does not store any data, it can safely be removed without telling the computer that you are going to eject it. The computer doesn’t recognize it as a device that needs to be ejected, so just unplug it. This will not harm your computer or the receiver. The controller, on the other hand, I guess just pull out the battery pack and put it back in? otherwise just leave it, it will turn off after awhile.
