Predicament caused by Razbarry: What is causing lines to be printed on my HP Color Laser jet 2840?

What would cause lines printed down the sheet on an Hp 2840 Color Laser jet Printer “Only when scanned from the document feeder” and not from just off the glass. Anything sent to it from a pc has no lines. Checked the glass where the scanner scans the sheet from the doc feeder and noticed no visible marks to effect scanning? Weird that it does not show up when just placing a sheet on the glass to copy… Please Help!
