Quandary created by catnip: Why won’t my Lexmark X2600 printer print anything anymore?
I have a Lexmark X2600 printer. Used to work just fine, but suddenly started saying “can not communicate with printer”…..I uninstalled the printer, then reinstalled it. Printed the test pages just fine. Then I tried to print a word document; same message: “can not communicate with printer”. Tried to print a photo; same message: “can not communicate with printer”
What is wrong? Nothing on the computer has changed at all. Why this now? Any ideas or suggestions?

Sometimes you have to turn printer off and unplug the power cable for a minute. That clears the local memory.
Some have said an anti-virus or a firewall might be problem sources. Another said print spooler service might have stopped. Another said the port settings in printer properties would be incorrect. Also, bi-directional support could be a factor in some printers.
Download any updated printer drivers from Lexmark webpage.

Start
Device manager
In the Device Manager Window, double-click the Universal Serial Bus
controllers
Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select
uninstall
Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.
NOTE: Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.
The USB port is now uninstalled.
Now, restart the system. The system automatically detects and reinstalls the USB port.

I’ve had a few funny looks recently as I’ve been collecting this printer spool which find itself spread around uni. There’s an ancient printer in particular up on the 5th floor, which is rather temperamental. Every so often it will pump out a sheet of this code. I presume its the HEX or ASCII of the image it was supposed to print, but it produces some really nice looking graphics.
As interesting as it is, its not ideal the day before a hand-in…
